Seasons Ecology wishes you a Happy New Year!
During the past twelve months, in our second year of trading, we have been busy. Not least because both Kate and Hannah have had babies this year. Thanks to two very trusty and hardworking associates, Seasons Ecology has operated as usual and has been involved in some interesting projects. These range from several London-based projects requiring suitably qualified ecologists (BREEAM), to wind turbine proposals in Devon and Cornwall (Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Appraisal Reports), and bat surveys and mitigation work in Wiltshire, Somerset and Devon.
With Kate and Hannah both fully back at work, Seasons Ecology is looking forward to the New Year and it looks set to be a busy one. The year starts off with several bat licence submissions and implementation, and then the great crested newt survey season is upon us. This is our favourite time of year, especially now as we get to be out after dark (a rare occasion with young children about!).
Thinking about this New Year, we can’t ignore the weather which has been extraordinary and doesn’t look set to settle down any time soon. There have been several important industry updates in 2013, which will be the topic of another Blog to follow soon….And we can’t fail to mention the Government’s suggestion that ancient woodland could soon be included in biodiversity offsetting schemes (meaning that new housing could be allowed on ancient woodland sites provided significantly more trees are planted than lost!). For this reason, Seasons Ecology’s charity of choice for 2014 is the Woodland Trust and we pledge to donate enough money to plant the equivalent of at least one tree per month – that doesn’t sound like a lot, but if all businesses in the UK did the same that could amount to some 4.8 million trees planted each month….!
Happy New Year to All!
