Biodiversity Enhancements for Local Church
On a breezy, cool May day, Kate and Emma spent the morning at Christ Church, Frome, putting up bat boxes on trees in the church grounds.

Several of the trees already had features, such as rot holes, peeling bark and dense ivy cover, which are great locations for bats to roost.
The day before, the church had added some swift boxes, which were funded by the Town Council.
Bat boxes are best positioned between 3m and 5m high and on a south-facing aspect of a tree or a south elevation of a building. Swift boxes should be positioned at least 5m high, facing north or east, and with no obstructions to flight paths to and from the boxes.
