BREEAM Ecology Credits
In general up to eight credits are available for LE 02 – LE 05 of BREEAM 2011 assessments (subject to specific schemes) and up to seven credits for Eco 1 – Eco 4 of EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments, which relate to the ecology of a site. This can make a real difference to the rating that can be achieved for a scheme. Furthermore, for BREEAM 2011 schemes to achieve a “Very Good” rating or higher, achieving at least one credit is mandatory for LE 03.
Seasons Ecology has supported a range of BREEAM, EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments in England and Wales by acting as the Suitably Qualified Ecologist, undertaking site visits and preparing Ecology Reports.
Our Suitably Qualified Ecologists work alongside appointed qualified assessors to ensure we understand what the project team is aiming for and to try and maximise the number of credits that can be achieved in respect to ecology and biodiversity to help to achieve the desired rating. Services we provide include:
- Site visits to assess the ecological value of a site;
- Advising on protection of ecological features of value;
- Recommending ecological enhancement opportunities;
- Advising on measures to ensure compliance with EU and UK wildlife legislation;
- Review of landscaping proposals and advising on alterations to increase;
- Measuring habitat areas before and after development;
- Calculating change in ecological value; and,
- Preparation of Ecological Management Plans.
To assist assessors, landscape architects, planners and developers in understanding the BRE change in ecological valuation (BREEAM 2011 LE 03 and LE 04; EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes Eco 4), Seasons Ecology has developed a calculator tool.
