Bat Survey Coordinator/Assistant Ecologist, Bath (start date February/March 2020)

Bat Survey Coordinator/Assistant Ecologist, Tiverton (start date April 2020)

Seasons Ecology is recruiting!

Seasons Ecology is seeking to appoint a Bat Survey Coordinator/Assistant Ecologist at each of our two offices to support our experienced ecological consultants and licensed bat ecologists in delivering a range of exciting projects across the country.

Seasons Ecology established in 2012 and specialises in ecological surveys, impact assessments and mitigation design largely to inform and support planning applications and construction projects. Enthusiastic Bat Survey Coordinators/Assistant Ecologists are required to assist with the efficient delivery of high quality surveys and data management to inform technical reports including ecological appraisals, Environmental Impact Assessments, protected species licences and biodiversity offsetting.

A position is available at each of our offices near Tiverton (close to the M5 on the Somerset/Devon border) and near Bath. The roles require regular travel across the south-west, England and Wales. Working closely alongside experienced ecologists the successful candidates will have a unique opportunity to benefit from significant in house training and gain experience of ecological consultancy.

The role will include the following key responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and scheduling bat surveys including resourcing (staff, travel and equipment)
  • Arranging access to sites
  • Risk assessments
  • Undertaking bat surveys (dusk, dawn, activity and preliminary bat roost assessment)
  • On site supervision of other surveyors
  • Managing bat data – tabulating results, downloading recordings and filing field notes and data
  • Teamwork

Other responsibilities will include assisting as required with reporting, general admin and surveys (such as great crested newt, reptile and dormice surveys).

The right individual will be passionate about wildlife and the outdoors (whatever the weather and hour!), but also enthusiastic and efficient with reporting and other office based tasks. You must be organised, pragmatic and adaptable with great communication skills. At least one season of bat surveying is essential as is a willingness to learn quickly and take on new responsibilities. A full UK driving licence and access to a car insured for business use is required.

Seasons Ecology offer a competitive salary and flexible working.

The position in Bath is to commence in February/March 2020 and the position in Tiverton is due to commence in April 2020. Both positions would be a minimum of 20 hours per week, but additional hours are likely to be available. These are temporary positions until the end of September 2020, but opportunities for extending the contracts would be explored.

To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to moira.allwood@seasonsecology.co.uk clearly stating your preferred location.

Closing date: Monday 13th January 2020

Interviews: Monday 27th/ Tuesday 28th January 2020
